ABOUT THE CITY OF TENA
Tena (www.tena.gov.ec) is a city of 46,007 residents, also known as the capital of cinnamon country. The town has Internet and public telephone services. The city is near Kichwa communities, primary forest, clear cristaline rivers, caves, etc. It is not a malaria or dengue zone.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
You should bring the following personal items:
Rubber boots (if you don’t have any, you can buy a pair in Tena)
Rain poncho, sandals, flashlight, batteries (big rechargables)
Sleeping bag and camping mattress
Mosquito repellent
First aid kit/medication
Light clothing
Water filter or purification tablets
Food to share with the family (fruit, vegetables, rice, etc.)
DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM
We are five hours from Quito (Quito-Baeza-Archidona-Tena), (Quito-Ambato-Baño-Puyo-Tena) or 30 minutes in airplane (Quito -Tena).
From the bus terminal in Quito (CUMANDA), take a bus to Tena with one of the following bus companies:
Baños
Amazonas
Flota Pelileo
Expreso Baños
Air transport
Service with the company SAEREO and charter flights with the FAE (Ecuadorian Air Force).
When you arrive at the terminal in Tena, take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to the community of Awapungo until the stop at the Huamac Urku road. From there you can walk 730 meters or ask for Ladi Tapuy or Benjamin from the Tamia Yura farm.
